Mauna Lani Spa |
|
Fiery volcanoes, fragrant flowers, and ukulele nights - Hawaii is
the epitome of breezy South Pacific romance. With its private
plunge pool, butler service, and tropical fishpond, the luxurious
two-steam-shower bungalow at Mauna Lani (on the Big Island) is
hedonistic as is – but add a Lomi Lomi Hula (lomilomi strokes
choreographed to Hawaiian music) for two and you're talking over the
top. |

Dedicated
to the cultural traditions of Hawaii, every aspect of Mauna
Lani Spa has been designed in accordance with Hawaiian methods
and healing practices. Indigenous plants and materials are
used both in the landscape and architecture, which reflect the
look and feel of Old Hawaii.
The
elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water influence the
treatments and experiences, such as mud wraps using volcanic
ash, hot stone therapies and Thalassotherapy with seaweed
wraps and baths.
The
15,000 square feet of outdoor treatment space at the Mauna
Lani Spa contains nine thatched hales, lush tropical
landscaping and a fragrance garden. A lava rock aromatherapy
sauna provides a stark, moon-like context to the lush
tranquility of the spa grounds. Inside, the spa has nine
treatment rooms - including four wet rooms, one a deluxe suite
for couples with steam bath and whirlpool - one massage room,
one manicure and pedicure room and three facial rooms, a
fitness area, men's and women's lockers/saunas/steam rooms, an
aerobics room, reception area and gift shop await your
satisfaction. |

There
is 15,000 square feet of outdoor treatment space at the Mauna Lani
Spa. Nine thatched hales (huts) -- two of them large enough for a
couples massage and all with outdoor showers - are surrounded by
lush tropical landscaping and a fragrance garden scented by
gardenia, ginger, pikake, pakalana and a variety of others
beautifully scented flowers. Two hales have lava rock soaking tubs
for specialty treatments and one features a Vichy shower. A lava
rock sauna (enhanced with aromatherapy), a fragrant herb garden and
a relaxation pavillion dot the landscape. Surrounding it all is a
simulation of the 16th Century Kaniku lava flow, which provides a
stark, moon-like context to the lush tranquility of the spa grounds. |

- LomiLomi is a spiritual, ancient Hawaiian massage technique
passed on through family generations by either the kupuna

employs the use of forearms and elbows to create a rhythmical and
vigorous euporia.
